Even as APSCUF is engaged in the fight for quality public higher education in Pennsylvania, this same battle is going on in state capitals across the country. That’s why we’re proud to support the Campaign for the Future of Higher Education, which will have its official launch next Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.
For those who are new to the blog, here’s a recent post setting out the Campaign for the Future of Higher Education’s seven principles. APSCUF invites you to participate in this event by attending a local watch party with your colleagues as the news conference will be streamed live via the Web. Here’s the link:

For more information on local watch parties, please email the state Mobilization chair, Eric Hawrelak, at . If you are on Twitter, you can join the conversation by live-Tweeting the event with the hashtag #CFHElaunch.
APSCUF President Steve Hicks will be one of four speakers at the news conference. In addition to APSCUF, here are some of the other organizations participating in the event:
- California Faculty Association
- United Faculty of Florida
- Faculty Staff Union, University of Massachusetts Boston
- Michigan Conference of American Association of University Professors
- Professional Staff Congress, City University of New York
- United University Professions, State University of New York
- New Faculty Majority
- American Association of University Professors
- American Federation of Teachers
- National Education Association
- United States Student Association
- Council for Opportunity in Education
- Institute for Higher Education Policy
As you can see, it’s a nationwide movement of educators, students and stakeholders, who all share the goal of fighting back against inequities in and the rapid paring back of access to public higher education.
Most of us are finally catching up after a long semester and an even longer finals week. If you can spare an hour, please join us next Tuesday at 1 p.m. for the national launch of the Campaign for the Future of Higher Education. No less than the future of our nation is at stake.
