Coach negotiators are feeling hopeful after a second day of talks between the Association of Pennsylvania State College and University Faculties and the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education, Coach Executive Leader John Gump said.

“We had two really productive days with a lot of progress made,” Gump said after the session at Dixon University Center in Harrisburg. “The sides are much, much closer than we’ve been at any point in the last 455 days.”

The coaches submitted a comprehensive proposal — including wage and healthcare proposals — to the State System, and APSCUF expects a response when the teams reconvene Monday, Oct. 3, at the association’s office in Harrisburg, Gump said.

“There’s still work to do and issues to be addressed, but I’m hopeful we can continue to make progress when we get back together,” Gump said.

The coaches’ contract expired June 30, 2015. Negotiations have been ongoing since late 2014.

APSCUF represents about 5,500 faculty and coaches at the State System universities: Bloomsburg, California, Cheyney, Clarion, East Stroudsburg, Edinboro, Indiana, Kutztown, Lock Haven, Mansfield, Millersville, Shippensburg, Slippery Rock, and West Chester Universities of Pennsylvania.
