Athletic coaches at each of Pennsylvania’s state-owned universities began strike-authorization voting today and will continue casting ballots through Thursday.

The Association of Pennsylvania State College and University Faculties’ Executive Council last month approved a request by the coaches’ leadership to move the vote to coach membership. The vote is one of multiple steps before a strike could begin.

Voting comes amid negotiations that have been ongoing since late 2014 but have not yielded a contract that APSCUF coaches feel is fair. The coaches’ contract expired June 30, 2015.

APSCUF will count ballots Friday, Sept. 16. The next coach contract-negotiation session is slated for Monday, Sept. 19.

All universities in the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education are members of the Pennsylvania State Athletics Conference and the National Collegiate Athletic Association.

APSCUF represents about 5,500 faculty and coaches at the State System universities: Bloomsburg, California, Cheyney, Clarion, East Stroudsburg, Edinboro, Indiana, Kutztown, Lock Haven, Mansfield, Millersville, Shippensburg, Slippery Rock, and West Chester Universities of Pennsylvania.
