Faculty members and coaches at the Bloomsburg campus of Commonwealth University are slated to take a no-confidence vote on University President Bashar Hanna in early February. The Association of Pennsylvania State College and University Faculties’ Bloomsburg chapter executive council on Thursday determined it would send the vote to chapter members.
“APSCUF/Bloomsburg has not come to this decision lightly,” Bloomsburg APSCUF Chapter President Dr. Eric Hawrelak said. “We can no longer stand idly by as President Hanna and his administration slowly destroy our university. It is time for the faculty and the students to stand up to defend our university and their education.”
Bloomsburg APSCUF’s scheduled vote follows months of APSCUF efforts to convince authority to do what is in the best interest of the university and its students. Lock Haven’s APSCUF chapter on Monday and Mansfield’s APSCUF chapter on Wednesday announced plans to hold votes of no-confidence as well.
APSCUF President Dr. Kenneth M. Mash last month issued a statement calling for Hanna’s presidency to end. Mash on Monday called upon the Commonwealth University council of trustees to hold a public, roll-call vote about Hanna. That council meets today.
APSCUF represents about 5,000 faculty and coaches at the State System campuses: Bloomsburg, California, Cheyney, Clarion, East Stroudsburg, Edinboro, Indiana, Kutztown, Lock Haven, Mansfield, Millersville, Shippensburg, Slippery Rock, and West Chester.
