APSCUF Announces 2014 Primary Election Endorsements

For Immediate Release

HARRISBURG, PA – In addition to its previously announced endorsement of Tom Wolf in the 2014 Pennsylvania Gubernatorial Election, the Association of State College and University Faculties today announced endorsements in House and Senate races affecting the 14 universities served by its membership.

“The brightest hope for ensuring a strong economic future for Pennsylvania is for the 14 state-owned universities to be able to continue producing high quality graduates that invigorate the workforce,” said Steve Hicks, President of APSCUF, the union representing more than 6,000 professors and coaches in the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education. “On average, about 80 percent of PASSHE graduates remain in Pennsylvania and become productive employees who contribute to growing the economy.”

The endorsements were reached following recommendations by the APSCUF Committee for Action through Politics (CAP) which reviewed every candidate in each race in the state in order to determine the candidates that would best help PASSHE and the APSCUF membership succeed in the future. APSCUF’s CAP is the political voice for APSCUF faculty and coaches. Since its inception in 1981, CAP has assisted faculty and coaches in making informed political decisions. CAP is a nonpartisan organization that supports candidates who will advocate for APSCUF’s goals and priorities.
