Following the NCAA Division II Membership Committee ruling on athletic programs at consolidating universities, the Association of Pennsylvania State College and University Faculties has released the following statement from its coach executive leader, John Gump:
“This is certainly good news. The coaches at these six universities have done a remarkable job of holding their programs together and staying focused on the well-being of their student-athletes through these months of uncertainty. I’m sure everyone is thrilled to be able to put all of their efforts back into creating the best possible athletic and educational experience for all involved on these campuses.”
APSCUF also released the following statement from its president, Dr. Jamie Martin:
“We are happy and relieved that the NCAA will allow for the athletic teams that currently exist at the six campuses to continue to compete post-consolidation. This decision eliminates the uncertainty that has existed for months. Our coaches are dedicated to their student-athletes and their successes on the playing fields and in the classrooms, and now they have clarity about their ability to continue to compete.”
APSCUF represents about 5,000 faculty and coaches at the State System universities: Bloomsburg, California, Cheyney, Clarion, East Stroudsburg, Edinboro, Indiana, Kutztown, Lock Haven, Mansfield, Millersville, Shippensburg, Slippery Rock, and West Chester Universities of Pennsylvania.
